Art therapy techniques can produce powerful subconscious shifts.
MAGICAL FOREST
This Billy Childish inspired piece was so interesting to create and it taught me about perspective properly for the furs time. This actually came at a time when I needed a lot of perspective on my own life where I couldn't see the wood from the trees. The royal blue I used in the Geisha painting from the month before was present in this too. This colour has a lot of significance regarding wisdom and protection, which I think ties in really well with the concept of trees which hold so much spiritual healing power and wisdom, and why I am a tree hugger.
GEISHA
The beauty of art is that there is no right way to explore and experiment. Just like this Geisha piece, I was curious and used a number of different modalities such as a covid mask, toilet roll, and brown paper. It was so inspiring to make a painting with so many layers, and the inspiration of the artist Ger doorink allowed me explore further and put an eastern style influence on the painting. This was my first large piece in about 8 years and it was displayed on the social media page of where I did the class and liked by the artist I was replicating.
VILLAGE
This Grahame Arthur Clarke inspired piece was a lot of fun to create and I learnt many layering techniques including mono printing. The concept of creating a village scene in the south downs really took me back to my own childhood where I grew up in a sweet village for 15 years. The abstract concept made it all the more fun to create with a transparent buildings against the block colours. I found the blend of pastels with block colours to be an interesting contrast and I was pleased at how it turned out because it was my most challenging piece.
UNTANGLE
This zentangle piece I created in a very stressful time in my life, where I needed to release and untangle negative energy. I followed a 20 minute tutorial and focused on the different shapes and patterns and allowed the repetitive nature of the piece to put me in a state of meditation and promote a sense of calm. I used shimmer watercolours for this piece and whilst it was a quick piece the result of the work both emotionally and physically was extremely rewarding.
